Endemic to the Arfak Mountains in Western New Guinea.
It is often called Rothschild's Birdwing in honor of Lord Walter Rothschild
who financed the expeditions to New Guinea which discovered this butterfly.
It has the most restricted distribution of all Birdwings and in the 1980s it was
Extremely hard to obtain, but now it is one of the easiest Birdwings to obtain.
