Danaus Plexippus(Monarch) -Male -Recto

Danaus Plexippus(Monarch) -Male -Recto -Pacific Grove, California, USA -(3.5 in wingspan).

Some people have asked me why this specimen has 'Yellow-Orange' in the
hindwings whereas others they've seen are 'All Orange'.
The answer is that Monarchs, like ALL butterflies, have VARIABILITY.
Seeing as I have lived in California my entire life I have seen hundreds
of Monarch Butterflies up close at various migration areas.
So, I can tell you that Monarchs can be a Bright-Orange, Tawny-Orange or Yellow-Orange.
This particular specimen is the Yellow-Orange form, which I think is striking.
