Graellsia Isabellae(Spanish Moon/Stained Glass Moth) -Male
Graellsia Isabellae(Spanish Moon/Stained Glass Moth) -Male -Spain -(3 in wingspan).
This is a Silk Moth which is endemic to Spain and France and the larvae feed exclusively on pine trees.
The proper scientific name is "Graellsia Isabellae", however it is sometimes called "Actias Isabellae".
The reason this moth is sometimes called the "Stained Glass Moth" is because like Stained Glass the green color lights up if there is light in the background, otherwise the green color is opaque.
In this photo there is light in the background and so the green is lit up which I think is striking.
