Pachliopta Polydorus Queenlandicus -Female -Verso
Pachliopta Polydorus Queenlandicus -Female -Verso -North Queensland, Australia -(3.5 in wingspan).
Unlike most species in the Genus Pachliopta(red-bodied swallowtails) this species(Polydorus) has no tails. However, I like Polydorus because it is full-bodied and has lots of white and red.
Furthermore, the Verso has brighter red spots and the body shows more red.
Like all Pachliopta the larvae of this butterfly breeds on various species of Aristolochia
which makes it unpalatable to predators. This is why the red on this butterfly is so bright(Aposematism).
