Bhutanitis Lidderdalii Lidderdalii(Bhutan Glory) -Male
Bhutanitis Lidderdalii Lidderdalii(Bhutan Glory) -Male -Shillong, India -Aug. 8, 1971 -(4 in wingspan).
Gets it's name from the fact that it was first discovered in May 1868, near Buxa, in the Bhutan Himalayas, at an elevation of 5000 feet, by Dr R. Lidderdale, of the Bengal Army.
This is one butterfly that was once "OVER COLLECTED" by butterfly collectors.
Fortunately, it is now protected by CITES Appendix II and it was protected in
India long before that, but NOT in 1971.
In my opinion, this is the most "AMAZING" butterfly in the world.
It is certainly NOT the most beautiful butterfly. What makes it so "AMAZING" is the Wing shape, Pattern and Colors.
